AN AMERICAN IN CHINA: 1936-39 A Memoir

Chongqing
重庆/重慶

A rare panorama of Chungking in 1938 before it was devasted by the bombing raids of the Japanese. Taken by the author from the veranda of the Texaco House, originally built by the Yangtze explorer Archibald Little, in the
late 1800s. Notice the Union Jack, right, and Butterfield & Swire steamer, far right. The tallest building at this time was probably the Anglican church, first building to right of hilltop. See link
for Chungking today.
